Consortium to develop new generation space technologies

New Delhi: The IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras is ready to collaborate with five start-ups to develop technologies for ecosystem development and the commercialization of space and deep space.

Named “Indian Space Technologies and Applications Design Bureau” (I-STAC.DB), the consortium will develop next-generation applications. It will focus on building an end-to-end Atmanirbhar ecosystem for space technologies, from on-demand access to data and space, including rapid launch capabilities, design and assembly of satellites, sensors, future generation communications such as 6G, satellite security, ground stations. , data processing, assimilation for communication and geospatial applications.

I-STAC.DB invites companies in space and related fields to join this effort. The founding members of I-STAC.DB are Dron Vayu Pvt Ltd, based in Delhi, and Agnikul Cosmos Pvt Ltd, based in Chennai, GalaxEye Space Solutions Pvt Ltd, Mindgrove Technologies Pvt Ltd and Resileo Labs LLP.

The main expected results and impacts of I-STAC.DB in the medium and long term include the design of launchers and spacecraft for additive manufacturing; development of mobile launch platforms on land, air and sea; capacity building for a reliable, reliable and rapidly reproducible satellite launch; creation of precision navigation and ground station infrastructure.

Other expected results include the development of hyperspectral vision sensors, photogrammetry and synthetic aperture radar, sensor fusion; advanced computing based on-board processing and deep learning in space; Earth observation remote sensing, 5G / 6G / 7G communication, inter-satellite communication within constellations; satellite applications such as data storage and management; space debris management; cyber-physical security of satellites, anti-satellite countermeasures; and capacity building and spatial data science.

The Department of Science and Technology, as part of its national mission on interdisciplinary cyber-physical systems, funded the Indian Institute of Technology Madras to host a Technological Innovation Hub (TIH) for the sensors area , networks, actuators and control systems (SNACS). IIT Madras recently created the ‍IITM Pravartak Technologies foundation to host this TIH.

Professor Satya Chakravarthy, Director of I-STAC.DB and Faculty of Aerospace Engineering Department at IIT Madras, said: “In today’s world, collaboration is the mantra. It is not possible for a single company to do all that is required for the end customer of space applications. This consortium naturally revolves around all these key players.
