Singapore’s DBS Bank is seeking more women to join its ranks with more than 140 openings in its Women in Tech Virtual Career Fair for female technologists this year.

That’s triple the number of opportunities available at last year’s inaugural fair, which saw more than 500 applicants vying for 50 vacancies.

New hires will fill positions in five engineering roles, including engineering managers, solution architects, ReactJS developers, full stack developers, as good as software development engineers in testing.

Soh Siew Choo, head of Big Data / Artificial Intelligence and Technology Group at Consumer Banking at DBS, said the bank is making a concerted effort to improve the representation of women in engineering roles, a space that continues to see a shortage of women in the sector.

Soh said the overwhelming response to the inaugural DBS Women-Focused Career Fair shattered the myth that there is a limited pipeline of women for tech roles.

“The key to success lies in the application of an impartial lens and a focused effort in our outreach. At DBS, we run hackathons and organized recruiting events to reach top female tech talent. We are deeply encouraged by the positive results of our efforts, ”she said.

Lo Man Ling, vice president of consumer banking digital platform at DBS, joined the bank in last year’s DBS Women in Tech race after more than nine years in the public sector .

“I was convinced by DBS’s unique and sincere effort to connect with female technologists like myself. Not only have I met many talented women in the bank’s technology and engineering teams, but I’ve also seen a community that truly believes in the importance and strength of diversity, ”Lo said.

Candidates will go through an 80-minute online assessment tailored to the roles they are applying for to assess their technical and planning abilities. These online reviews must be submitted by June 8, 2021.

DBS has organized events to attract more female technologists to its ranks. In 2019, the bank launched Hack2Hire-Her, an awareness program targeting female tech talent to complement the bank’s annual Hack2Hire hackathon.
