First dual output automotive estimation module qualified for operation up to 105 ° C

Accurate and continuous navigation in all environments with sensor-based spoof detection

Thalwil, Switzerland – July 13, 2021 – u-blox (SIX: UBXN, OTC: UBLXF), one of the world’s leading providers of positioning and wireless communication technologies and services, presents a series of automotive grade positioning modules that are operational up to 105 ° C. NEO-M9L The M9140-KA-DR modules and chip are built on the rugged u-blox M9 GNSS platform and use dead reckoning techniques to provide accurate position data when satellite signals are compromised or unavailable.

The u-blox NEO-M9L-20A and NEO-M9L-01A modules, as well as the M9140-KA-DR chip are specially designed for automotive OEM solutions. The modules and chip are all automotive grade, with the NEO-M9L-01A variant offering an extended operating temperature range of up to 105 ° C, making it suitable for integration on the roof, behind the windshield or inside hot electronic control units (ECUs). Applications include integrated navigation systems such as in-car infotainment (IVI) and main units, integrated telematics control units (TCU) and V2X.

The modules include next-generation 6-axis inertial measurement units (IMUs) that provide low latency 100Hz RAW data output. The modules offer a low latency 50Hz position update rate, making it ideal for use in real-time applications. The Automotive Estimate (ADR) output intelligently combines the GNSS patch with the IMU data to provide the most accurate positioning output for the given scenario. An additional GNSS-only output allows seamless integration into a variety of third-party applications. The receiver also supports motion wake-up, enabling smart features like theft protection and power-saving designs.

The modules offer innovative sensor-based identity theft detection for advanced security and robustness. The chip provides protection against possible GNSS signal spoofing, which can cause navigation systems to report incorrect position data or time.

“U-blox M9 sensor fusion products meet the latest automotive market requirements for quality, reliability and robustness. The availability and reliability of position output is increased by using simultaneous reception of four GNSS constellations, ”says Aravinthan Athmanathan, product manager, Product Center Positioning at u-blox. In addition, the identity theft detection function is taken to a new level compared to the predecessor. Coupled with low latency position output, attitude and sensor data, the u-blox NEO -M9L is ready to meet the current and future challenges facing the automotive market. “

All module variants comply with AEC-Q104, the latest standard ensuring the reliability of modules used in automotive applications. Technical samples (ES) and evaluation kits will be available by the end of September 2021. Please contact your local u-blox sales team for pre-orders.
