Government says only 4,227 online requests for car help have been received so far
KUANTAN: Only 4,227 applications for automobile assistance worth an estimated RM5.47 million have been received from flood victims nationwide through the official portal https://bantuanautomotif.hasil.gov.my since its launch on January 18, says Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah.
He said the figure was still low despite not considering those who applied manually and hoped flood victims would submit their applications before the March 31 closing date.
“Flood victims whose vehicles have been damaged due to the flooding should take advantage of this aid,” he told reporters after attending the Simpanan Nasional Bank (BSN) community and banking micro facilities program. at Sungai Lembing here, which allows residents to take advantage of ATM facilities from Saturday. (January 29).
In the meantime, Mohd Shahar said that Bank Negara would discuss with insurance companies and takaful to raise awareness among consumers about flood insurance coverage.
“It also involves planning for the industries involved to provide comprehensive coverage at a more affordable price,” he said.
Meanwhile, MP for Paya Besar said the ATM would benefit about 4,000 residents of Sungai Lembing who previously had to travel nearly 50 km to withdraw cash in Kuantan.
He said it would also benefit tourists visiting Sungai Lembing, which was once known as the “El Dorado of the East” for its history in tin mining.- Bernama
