NUI Galway, together with 12 software industry partners, is accepting applications for its Graduate Diploma Program in Software Design and Development – Industry Stream.

A limited number of places will be funded by the Higher Education Authority given the strategic importance of skills development in this area. Successful applicants will not pay any fees if they are unemployed. If they have a job or part-time job, they will pay a one-time fee of 10% which amounts to € 650.

Of those graduating from the Higher Diploma in Software Design and Development, 90% got immediate employment in software development roles, with many graduates finding employment in some of Ireland’s leading software companies. NUI Galway has designed this one-year conversion program in collaboration with 12 leading IT employers that provides graduates with retraining for employment in the software development field.

The overall objective of this postgraduate conversion program is to strategically increase the supply of qualified graduates to meet the needs of the fast growing software industry in Ireland. It will provide graduates with a focused and accelerated IT qualification, and offer them the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in industry.

Successful candidates are matched with an industrial partner from the start of the program and are then trained in key technologies for that employer’s needs and are then able to maximize the impact of a paid internship in the industry towards the end of the program. program. Industrial partners include Avaya, Cisco, SAP, Insight, Sidero, Aspect Software, Genesys The Marine Institute and Schneider Electric.

Course Director Dr Enda Barrett said: “We are delighted to once again offer places in this unique program fully funded by the Higher Education Authority and its Springboard initiative. This is a great opportunity for highly motivated analytical graduates, especially in related disciplines such as Engineering, Mathematics, Business and Science. We have had tremendous success with graduates from these fields because of their natural problem-solving ability. By investing only one year of their time in continuing education and, through internship experience with our industry partners, they will have excellent prospects for recruiting as software developers in the high-tech ICT sector. in Ireland.

“The ICT sector is currently expanding rapidly and there is a growing skills shortage for the ICT graduate positions that these students are ideally placed to fill. The very intensive program is designed for those with little or no knowledge of software development, but we are especially keen to receive applications from those who have been exposed to coding and think it is something they potentially have a push. People with strong technical or numerical knowledge often do better in these types of programs and we strongly encourage applicants who have strong logical reasoning or math skills. This could be a strong mathematical result of their graduation certificate or some modules of their undergraduate degree. This is not essential, but often indicates strong problem-solving and logical skills. As this program is funded under Springboard’s ICT Skills segment, there are no limitations regarding the candidate’s current job or welfare status.

The Graduate Diploma in Software Design and Development builds on the existing strengths of collaborative university-industry interaction in the Galway region and will provide graduates with a solid foundation in key areas of software design and development. The final aspect of the course involves a three-month paid internship to gain experience in the industry, offering successful candidates the opportunity to start their careers as a software developer.

Each student progressing through the course will have their training content determined by their associated industrial partner. At the end of the training, these students will have transformed their employability in the current economy, with a range of great options open to them for further progression either in industry or by specialization more in a master’s degree.

“The career prospects for our graduates are extremely strong and demand significantly exceeds supply,” continued Dr. Barrett. “The program is highly respected by many leading Irish software companies, many of which are specifically interested in recruiting graduates from our unique program. Many of our graduates receive multiple job offers even before they complete the program. Our recognition as the postgraduate program of the year in Information Technology has propelled the program and our graduates to the top of the list for many recruiters and we are delighted with the feedback and positivity we have received from our staff. former graduates and their employers. “

The program is open to anyone with a Level 8 degree or those with a Level 7 degree with relevant work experience in the industry.

The deadline for applications is August 1, 2021. NUI Galway is currently processing applications and interested persons can apply through springboardcourses.fr/
