Spacetech start-up Open Cosmos has launched a platform called DataCosmos that aims to make satellite data easier to access for everyone, from organizations to governments. The platform combines Earth observation data from multiple sources that can help mitigate ecological and sustainability challenges.

Through it, Open Cosmos aims to democratize access to satellite data. According to Scott Smith, Technical Project Manager, Open Cosmos, who leads the development of DataCosmos, the underlying technology is at the forefront of cloud-native approaches to delivering and leveraging satellite data that provides actionable insights and empowers the people.
What differentiates DataCosmos from other platforms is that its interface combines several types of data from satellites, drones, sensors, etc. As it is a cloud, users can access, download, view and process high resolution images in seconds.
“DataCosmos aims at data fusion. Gather satellite and drone images, data from sensors or vector layers, and results of applications on these data. Then it provides a visual interface to manage all related information, visualize and compare, in order to make decisions. The built-in apps and public API make the tool limitless in terms of the results it can deliver,” says Carlos Fernández de la Peña, Vice President of Business Development, Data and Satellite Services, Open Cosmos. DataCosmos seamlessly integrates access to data from over 20 satellites and allows the user to load them for new imagery.
