Tesla battery: an old battery designed by a Tesla engineer from the Bengaluru startup obtains a European order

The battery is the lifeblood of an electric vehicle and the run time it gives on a full charge as well as the time it takes to charge dictate the success of the green vehicle.
It is also essential in solar energy projects because the energy from the sun is not available throughout the day every day, which requires storage.
Eren Group – promoted by solar energy pioneer Paris Mouratoglou, will acquire a 54 MWh battery from Pravaig, said Siddhartha Bagri, who founded Pravaig with Dhawal Vinkay Khullar.
“We have been working on a prototype electric vehicle for a decade and during the pursuit we have developed a fast-charging and very dense battery,” he said, adding that it only needed half a hour to fully charge the battery.
Additionally, its high density means it gives more power per atom, which proves cost effective compared to alternatives such as sodium ions or aluminum air.
“After 11 years of research and development, we now manufacture one of the most energy dense batteries in the world for automotive applications, up to 180 Wh per kg,” said co-founder Ram Divedi.
“Pravaig batteries have an extremely fast response time of up to 1 minute and are built to European automotive safety standards.” Pravaig batteries are designed for the toughest conditions in the world, i.e. Indian roads.
It uses its battery expertise for large-scale storage solutions for use in renewable energy integration and large-scale backup to replace diesel generators.
These modular batteries pack 3.2 MWh in a standard 20-foot container and deliver 1.5 MW of power for two hours. The life of these batteries is 20 years of daily use.
“These batteries are fully engineered, engineered and manufactured in India. Pravaig’s chief battery engineer is Anirudh Vijaykumar, who previously worked as a senior product engineer for Applied Materials where he fabricated semiconductor factory lines, and senior battery engineer at Tesla in their nascency within a very small team of 12 people making the Model S, X, 3 batteries and their energy storage systems,” he said.
India’s automotive space is now flooded with two-, three- and four-wheel electric vehicles, but near-zero emission vehicles have yet to grow much, mainly due to battery issues.
Also, who’s who of Indian companies – from billionaires Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani to state-owned companies – has announced renewable energy projects as well as battery solutions. And Pravaig’s battery solution opens up new possibilities for them.
One of Europe’s largest renewable energy companies, Eren Groupe is promoted by Paris Mouratoglou, the solar energy pioneer who launched the solar energy industry with the first commercial solar in 1974.
As independent power producers, the group has over 2.2 GW of solar power in India with its JV partners.
Most importantly, they have various technologies for India, unified under the Ekniti India Pvt Ltd banner.
In a letter to Union Energy Minister RK Singh, Mouratoglou said the batteries manufactured by Pravaig “are on par with, if not better than, the best technologies in the world.”
“Ekniti will continue to work with Pravaig and government bodies to bring India’s power infrastructure,” he added. Pravaig is the only company in India to manufacture large-scale energy storage systems. Annual generation capacity is 2 GWh from their Bengaluru facility.
They also provide defense and automotive battery solutions with an annual production capacity of 500 MWh for these critical applications.
Launched in 2011, Pravaig is a high-tech company that builds world-class products from the ground up and targets the global opportunity to manufacture 2 billion electric vehicles over the next 2 decades, Bagri added. PTI ANZ MR
